Narrows Bridge Run…

Well I did it. I sunk my $30 and got a T-Shirt and a 5K run. The one and only Toyota – Tacoma Narrows Bridge Run. benefiting the Tacoma General Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A quote from the site “The Tacoma Narrows Bridge 5K run/Walk will be the first, last, and only time the new span of the tacoma Narrows bridge will be open for an organized run/walk across the bridge, EVER.” hmmm I wonder about the old span? I was a great day and I am sorry I forgot everything this time, not just my camera. I even forgot my phone, that kinda has a camera in it, and my wallet (no camera). Bummer. I finished in amazing time… it seemed to take forever. But it was fun if a little warm at times. I just went to the race results at Athletes Lounge. Where I found this note expecting to see when the results would be posted “RESULTS WILL BE POSTED AFTER 5:00PM ON JULY 15, 2007” but no results, let me check my watch… 8:34PM another bummer. It had me excited for a moment. Maybe tomorrow.

I recently picked up a Cannon PowerShot SD450 Digital ELPH. Pretty small and lightweight, seems to take decent pictures I will be taking this on the Courage Classic this year so look out for pictures. Man I am going to need a better paying job if I keep buying toys.

Well, I gotta run… I mean walk slowly and carefully. Biking is not ideal training for running, but it does help.

Patience training day and more…

Well I had a lovely ride into work this morning, I loaded up a backpack with crap and took the racer in. On my way I ran afoul of the illustrious work of the Tacoma road maintenance crew, and got a pinch flat. There was so much gravel on outer edge of the road on Tyler. I don’t mean little pebbles, I am talking Bam Bam and Dino, sized rocks. Okay, it just seemed like it, between the rough edged holes and rocks on the road it was like biking a mine field. So I changed the tube and took out my trusty Planet Bike Red Zeppelin CO2 inflator. When I started to use it, for the first time, the head separated from the body and it started spraying CO2 everywhere. That sucks.

Then I had some help while posting, here are the photos. I could not get a picture of the actual helping.

Tour de Pierce 2007

Well I did the Tour de Pierce and it went very well. It was a beautiful day… If you are a duck or a frog. Mostly the weather was good. The last 3 miles were another story altogether. I REALLY wanted to take pictures but none of my digital cameras are water proof. I was looking on the REI site for a solution and may have found something from a company called Aquapac, these look promising. I meant to post this right away but lost the post between my mobile phone and this blog. Bummer. That is why I am back dating this. No, you did not miss this before. 😉

I ended up helping a kid on the last 8 miles that had a department store bike with a crank that was falling off, the bolt had come loose. Small problem the bolt was not designed for bike tools, so nobody had a ratchet and socket that we needed to tighten it. I just kept hand tightening it for him and got him to the end of the ride. Which brings me to a rant, BICYCLES NEED TO STOP FOR RED LIGHTS! I almost saw this kid get creamed blowing through red lights. He said he just does not see them, I wish I had seen his Mother at the finish to explain to her what was going on out there.

Another thing that horks me off, pacelines on these fun rides. There are kids and newbies on these rides. Having a bunch of rude scofflaws blasting by you and then blocking traffic when there is plenty of shoulder is bad form. I should go talk to their parents too. Why would someone need to do a paceline on an organized ride like this where it might cause an accident or needlessly put the other riders at risk, due to antagonizing other drivers.

End Rants.  Party on…

I like to call this sporadic training…

Well I have gotten in a few hours of training this week. I am likely nowhere near ready for something as simple as the “Tour de Pierce” this Sunday, but here goes nothing. I am hoping to ride my racing bike this year on the Courage Classic, pictures of the bike coming soon.

I need to do a few upgrades. I have been talking with Jason (The Bald Guy) at Old Town Bicycle in Tacoma’s Old Town area. I am going weight weenie on this one. My Klein Quantum Race just the opposite of my Rivendell Atlantis, my long distance indestructable bike and heavy bike. I am adding Carbon Fiber spiffy handlebars and a fancy adjustable stem that raises them up so I can still see where I am going with my arthritic neck joint. Either that or I need someone to ride in front of me so I can watch their back wheel the whole time. 😉

It’s that time again…

I have not posted in a while, time to get back in the habit.  Maybe even be a little more frequent.

I have not had much time to train this year yet.  I am really going to have to get cranking to get ready for the Courage Classic Bicycle Tour, August 4-6, 2007 this year. I don’t want a repeat of last years performance. I was way out of shape.

This year you can support me supporting Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Trust Foundation here:
