From VeloNews, “Drug scandal changes face of ’06 Tour” man I don’t know what to think now, the timing of this is amazing. All of my favorites are out even Vinokourov’s team Astan?-W?rth is out due to insufficient riders to race. George Hincapie should have a good chance to win this year tour.

Here is one I saw on Slashdot is this car that got over 3000 miles on a gallon of gas. This is the winner of the Super Milage Competion. Second place is better pretty awesome too.

For the lazy bikers we have one from Engadget a wheel that turns your bike into a moped. If only it was electric, but batteries would be heavier then fuel. With this even aka Steve could keep up with me.

My favorite part of the day, though it was close with the Gordon Home…
The Oregon Electric Railway Museum the largest Trolley Museum in the Pacific Northwest! The Oregon Electric Railway Museum is owned and operated by the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society. The Museum is run by volunteers of the Society. In the museum’s and traction equipment.

  • Oh cool my favorite part is up ahead.

  • There were these flyers about saving the 1067. Build in 1907 and is now the only remaining trolley built in Oregon. We’ll try to get some shots of this when we get to the barn.
  • Looks like a good place for a rolling party.
  • This one apparently could nto be saved. Bummer I like that style.
  • vicious guard doggie and a flashy dresser too.
  • Look a Seattle bus too, anyone for a trip to Alki?
  • The middle one is a Queen Anne bus and the back is a Muni bus I think.
  • I want to go back down here when this is done. It should be way cool.
  • Inside one of the sad examples. But with money this one can be restored too.
  • I wonder where this one came from? Really bad shape but a cool example.
  • An interesting read, too bad the other pictures did not turn out as well.
  • A more common example of and interior. I would guess these sat outside for years.
  • The black lever looks like a deadman switch, more likely the the brakes.

  • The old 1067 is looking pretty sad for now. Bummer.

  • There is the double-decker in question. This one in front they use for rides, they were working on a resister array that had blown for the one in front here.

  • This one is rusting pretty badly but still cool.

Between getting sick and busy and what not I have not gotten a round-to-it. Now I am almost there. These are from the Antique Powerland Museums there are 94 photos in this album whew. Hopefully I can get some riding in this weekend and try out another new toy. That I wil blog about shortly.

  • A very cool old tractor.
  • An old John Deer, the same color as my JD Lawn Mower. A little bigger though.
  • A multipurpose tractor and could be used for powering other things too like possibly a saw or a water pump.
  • The seat to this one is at the very back and it looks like it handles like a sports car… NOT. Very utilitarian. Gear driven steering.
  • Another tractor and more. The 10 – 20 means 10 to 20 horsepower. With the gearing on these that much power could pull just about anything.
  • Not the best angle. It was really tight in here.
  • And another…
  • This Parrett has a sideways radiator, these needed to be as reliable as possible and rather then gearing and twising things sometimes they just left them as is and this is the result.
  • Another FarmAll in a pretty blue, nice machinery.
  • That looks like a locomotive… How cool.
  • This puppy has the wheel on the side for driving other things and a swamp cooler on the radiator for extra cooling. How cool.
  • A Model T tractor, this was available in a Sear catalog back in the day.
  • Another tractor with a swamp cooler on the radiator. That is some cooling.

  • This one looks cool, but I guess sometimes would set the field it was working on fire. Since the fire for the furnace was down low, not an ideal farm implement eh?

  • Look at these early self propelled farm implements.

  • A hand operated machine a bank of batteries, used to store energy from a generator for powering other things like a pump…

  • Another type of windmill and an old Blacksmith shop mockup.
  • Looks like an old pump or something.
  • These tractors look like locomotives, pretty cool.

  • A better look at the middle of these tractors.
  • These thing have slightly better steeting then a train… Trains don’t steer of course.
  • A good view of the steering mechanism. The rod coming down from the left connects to the steering wheel, then the gear (worm gear) drives the round gear. This then pulls on either of the chains to twist the front wheels.
  • A look at the steering wheel and drive gears. The worm gear is near the lower right corner.

  • And a good look at the third tractor.
  • Shot of the firebox and the driver seat on the third tractor.

First attempt at using my new “Tony Hawk Helmetcam”

I tried to use my new cam this morning on my commute into work. Got everything hooked up ok. Only way to turn this thing off is to open the battery compartment, not a good design. Additionally, when it is turned on but not recording you have a flashing laser pointer to target your subject, very very dangerous. There is no way to disable the laser pointer that I have found, other then the obvious, black electrical tape. Ran into another problem, since you have to open the battery door to turn it off, I dropped a battery just before starting and put it in wrong… So no recording for that ride. Bummer. But I got another shot at it tonight we will see how this goes. I am about to hit the road again, watch out for me.

Tour de France 2006

The big race starts in 2 weeks and 3 days, WHOO HOO! I was just checking out the tour route on BBC’s site. And to get some study time in at sites like Bicycling and the TdF Blog (TdF = Tour de France) I am pretty excited for this years tour, I was certain who would win for each of the last 5 years. This year it is a toss up, but my money is on Ivan Basso who finished 3rd in the 2004 TdF and 2nd in 2005 tour. Bring it on!
