Followup on the 2008 Tour de Pierce

I have to say I REALLY dislike people. These organized rides remind me how inconsiderate humans can be sometimes. I love the ride, I really enjoyed the ride. Why do people think I am the keeper of the idiots on this ride that cannot bother to obey the traffic laws or even common sense.

I had two people point out to me the following “You need to tell those guys to pay attention to the lights” and “You had better do something with those …”. Hmmm, the kicker is I did not see anybody I knew on this ride. I was not wearing anything that looked official, even remotely. But somehow I was supposed to be the keeper of the idiot brigade. I saw rampant red light running, right of way violations, stop sign running, and lane violations.

Bikes do have a right to be on the road, but if there is a bike lane provided then to have three people riding abreast in the traffic lane is forbidden. I pointed that out to three women that were too attractive to have to follow even the most basic rules of the road. It is possible they could not read the signs, but then they could have had the brunette riding with them read them the signs that indicated they should be riding single file. Then a couple riding two up tried to pass them in the other lane of traffic, heading in the same direction, right out in front of an approaching big rig. Good thing the driver had good reflexes and instincts.

On the courage classic I see a tiny bit of this but nowhere near the level of idiocy that I saw on this and other organized rides in the past. This year was worse than any previous Tour de Pierce for people being inconsiderate to the drivers and other riders.

Here are a few photos bikes from the ride.

I am still collecting for the Courage Classic and you can donate through this micro site here with my id of bikermikey2008. Thanks in advance.

I would like to thank aka Steve, Bud L., and the Friday night group for their support.
