Tour de Pierce 2007

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Well I did the Tour de Pierce and it went very well. It was a beautiful day… If you are a duck or a frog. Mostly the weather was good. The last 3 miles were another story altogether. I REALLY wanted to take pictures but none of my digital cameras are water proof. I was looking on the REI site for a solution and may have found something from a company called Aquapac, these look promising. I meant to post this right away but lost the post between my mobile phone and this blog. Bummer. That is why I am back dating this. No, you did not miss this before. ;-)

I ended up helping a kid on the last 8 miles that had a department store bike with a crank that was falling off, the bolt had come loose. Small problem the bolt was not designed for bike tools, so nobody had a ratchet and socket that we needed to tighten it. I just kept hand tightening it for him and got him to the end of the ride. Which brings me to a rant, BICYCLES NEED TO STOP FOR RED LIGHTS! I almost saw this kid get creamed blowing through red lights. He said he just does not see them, I wish I had seen his Mother at the finish to explain to her what was going on out there.

Another thing that horks me off, pacelines on these fun rides. There are kids and newbies on these rides. Having a bunch of rude scofflaws blasting by you and then blocking traffic when there is plenty of shoulder is bad form. I should go talk to their parents too. Why would someone need to do a paceline on an organized ride like this where it might cause an accident or needlessly put the other riders at risk, due to antagonizing other drivers.

End Rants.  Party on…

I like to call this sporadic training…

Well I have gotten in a few hours of training this week. I am likely nowhere near ready for something as simple as the “Tour de Pierce” this Sunday, but here goes nothing. I am hoping to ride my racing bike this year on the Courage Classic, pictures of the bike coming soon.

I need to do a few upgrades. I have been talking with Jason (The Bald Guy) at Old Town Bicycle in Tacoma’s Old Town area. I am going weight weenie on this one. My Klein Quantum Race just the opposite of my Rivendell Atlantis, my long distance indestructable bike and heavy bike. I am adding Carbon Fiber spiffy handlebars and a fancy adjustable stem that raises them up so I can still see where I am going with my arthritic neck joint. Either that or I need someone to ride in front of me so I can watch their back wheel the whole time. ;-)

Thanks for your support…

Thanks for supporting me and my Courage Classic habit.

Let me know if I am forgetting anyone so far.

It’s that time again…

I have not posted in a while, time to get back in the habit.  Maybe even be a little more frequent.

I have not had much time to train this year yet.  I am really going to have to get cranking to get ready for the Courage Classic Bicycle Tour, August 4-6, 2007 this year. I don’t want a repeat of last years performance. I was way out of shape.

This year you can support me supporting Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Trust Foundation here:
